Over the following years, Rogów Opolski Castle belonged to the Rogoyski family, and later to the von Wbrsky family. In 1760, the estate was acquired by Count Karl Wilhelm von Haugwitz, who decided to transform the castle into a nobleman's manor house. In the 19th century, a Classicist western wing was added, and an English-style garden was established around the castle, by order of the then Prime Minister of Prussia. In 1932, after the death of the last member of the von Haugwitz family, the castle became the property of the Danish branch of the family. In 1945, the castle in Rogów Opolski, destroyed by war, was nationalized. Since 1964, the property has belonged to the Voivodeship Public Library in Opole. After its reconstruction, valuable library collections were placed here, which today constitute one of the most interesting tourist attractions in the Opole region.

For literature lovers and more!

The Renaissance castle in Rogów Opolski is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Opole region, but it's also worth taking a closer look at what lies within its walls. There's plenty to admire! Visitors can admire the library's rich collection of ancient manuscripts, old prints, deeds, diaries, and chronicles. Among the exhibits are a manuscript written on gray parchment from 1324, a woodcut map of Silesia dated 1545, and the Silesian Chronicle from 1625 by Jacob Schickfus. Literature lovers will certainly appreciate the exhibition illustrating the history of books—from papyrus and clay tablets to 18th-century books. Also worthy of note are the centuries-old graphic collections—copperplate engravings, etchings, and steel engravings.

A family walk along the park alleys

Rogów Opolski Castle and its collections are a major tourist attraction, but the surrounding gardens are also worth mentioning. The Renaissance castle is located right next to a picturesque park, perfect for a leisurely family stroll. In the English-style park, you can admire numerous old trees, such as oaks, beeches, and plane trees, as well as ginkgo biloba and tulip trees, which are rare in Poland. Some beeches reach a height of almost 40 meters! While strolling to the sound of birdsong, with a bit of luck you might spot a squirrel or even a curious hare!

The House of the Rooster

Right next to the Renaissance castle in Rogów Opolski stands another interesting structure – the neo-Gothic House under the Rooster, built in 1915. It owes its name to the rooster-shaped metal weathervane atop the tower. The "cavalier," as the local community calls the building (the barracks were formerly called the bachelor's house), once housed the office of the farm manager. Today, the building offers accommodations for tourists.

Take a trip along the trail of Opole's attractions!

Rogów Opolski Castle is located relatively close to other tourist attractions in the Opole region.
