Biskupia Kopa as a border mountain

For centuries, Biskupia Kopa Mountain has both divided and united. It divides because for centuries, the administrative border between countries and regions has run through its summit. It unites because it is here that those who, regardless of nationality, love mountain hiking and communing with nature meet. But let's begin with a time long past. From the first half of the 13th century, Biskupia Kopa Mountain divided the bishoprics of Wrocław and Olomouc. After the Silesian Wars of the 18th century, the mountain divided the lands under the rule of the Habsburgs and Hohenzollerns. In more recent times, the border between Germany and Czechoslovakia ran through the summit. Today, the summit of Biskupia Kopa marks the Polish-Czech border, and "incidentally," the border between the municipalities of Głuchołazy and Zlate Hory.

Biskupia Kopa Mountain requires some effort on the approach, but on the other hand, it offers much more in return thanks to the beautiful views from its summit. The highest point of Biskupia Kopa is located on the Czech side, and it's here that you'll find a historic, 18-meter-high observation tower built in the late 19th century. Everyone will agree that observing the world from atop a mountain has something magical about it! From the summit of Biskupia Kopa, you'll be able to see the Jeseníky Mountains, the Śnieżnik Massif, and the Złote Mountains, and if the weather is favorable, even the silhouettes of the Karkonosze and Stołowe Mountains, as well as the panorama of the town of Zlate Hory on the Czech side. If you're wondering if all this is worth the hike, our answer is definitely yes!

Biskupia Kopa – trails for beginners

If you're considering climbing Biskupia Kopa, the trails we've described should be of interest to you. Setting off on the Polish side, you can choose between the red trail from Głuchołazy and the yellow trail from Jarnołtówek. The red trail is steeper and more demanding, hence its lower popularity among hikers. The yellow trail is gentler, more heavily forested, and more popular, especially for those less experienced in mountain hiking. Along the way, you can stop for a refreshment at the PTTK "Pod Kopą Biskupia" mountain hut. Once you've conquered the highest peak of the Opawskie Mountains, and at the same time, one of the Crowns of the Polish Mountains, but you still don't have enough mountain hiking, we recommend one more trail. A picturesque blue loop from Pokrzywna to Jarnołtówek and back is certainly an interesting idea.
