Moszna Castle – a few words about the history of this place

The famous castle is located in Moszna – a small town, only 15 km from Krapkowice and 30 km from the capital of the province – OpoleAccording to local legend, in medieval times, Moszna was owned by the Knights Templar. The palace in Moszna was built in the mid-18th century, and 100 years later, the estate was purchased by the Tiele-Winckler family. A great fire at the turn of the century necessitated the reconstruction (and simultaneous expansion) of the castle in Moszna, which gained it its own Gothic wing. It is worth noting that the emperor himself visited the site many times. William IIAfter World War II, the palace in Moszna became state property and served as a sanatorium for many years. Today, it serves primarily as a tourist attraction.

99 turrets and... not one more!

Moszna Castle owes its impressive appearance to its Baroque, Neo-Gothic, and Neo-Renaissance architecture, as well as its atmospheric setting amidst a lush landscape park. What most intrigues visitors to the Opole region's largest tourist attraction are its numerous towers and turrets—99 of them!

Where does this number come from?

According to legend, Count Franz Tiele-Winckler ordered the construction 99 turrets, because at 100 he would have had to pay the entire garrison. Another legend has it that the 99 towers represent the 99 estates of the Tiele-Winkler family. What was the truth? We will probably never know.

Excuse me, is it haunted here?

We don't know if this will encourage or discourage visitors to the palace in Moszna, but we'll be honest with you – it most likely will. According to another legend, a wolf wanders around the castle. white lady – the ghost of a governess who is unhappily in love with the count and who, under the cover of night, wanders around the estate in search of the count’s bedroom.

We also have good news – the castle in Moszna has as many as 365 chambers and rooms, which minimizes the likelihood of encountering the castle ghost. But be careful!

Admission to the palace and park grounds is subject to a fee from the beginning of March to the end of November. You can purchase a standard admission ticket or take advantage of additional options, such as: entry to the chambers (guided tour), entry to the castle towers, or extreme sightseeing, during which you will discover inaccessible places and dark secrets hidden for centuries within the castle walls.
