As we learn from old chronicles and documents, the Gothic castle in Brzeg was built in the 13th century. It served as a princely residence while maintaining its defensive capabilities. From 1311, Brzeg Castle served as the capital of the Duchy of Brzeg, being the seat of the Silesian Piast dynasty for almost four centuries.

After World War II, the castle underwent a thorough renovation, which lasted from 1966 to 1990. In 2018, the Silesian Piast Castle in Brzeg was entered on the list of Historical Monuments by the President of the Republic of Poland, which emphasizes its importance for the cultural heritage of Poland.

The castle in Brzeg is a combination of several architectural styles. Initially, it was a Gothic fortress typical of the period, but in the 16th century, thanks to Italian architects Jakub Parr and Franciszek Parr, and later Bernard and Piotr Niuron, transformed into a Renaissance residence.
