Spring 2021 saw the beginning of a significant event on the region's tourist map: the revitalization of the famous Moszna Castle, one of the Opole Voivodeship's greatest attractions. This is the largest renovation in over 100 years. Suffice it to say, it cost over PLN 40 million! Why is the renovation of the palace in Moszna such a big event?
Moszna Castle It's one of the region's greatest, if not the greatest, prides. It's no wonder that such large-scale revitalization efforts are enjoying such immense popularity among residents and tourists alike. Work on renovating the palace and adjacent park is expected to last 1.5 years, and its cost is estimated at over 30 million złoty! This is the largest revitalization of the castle in over 100 years, which has the local community eagerly awaiting the results. The work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.
What exactly is to be done?
The scope of the work is extensive! A total of 10,000 square meters of the castle's facade has been revitalized. Particularly intensive work has been carried out on the main body and the southeastern walls. Work has also begun on the observation deck. New walking paths will be added to the gardens. As many as 170 new lanterns and lighting points, powered by cables totaling 5,000 meters, will be installed in the park. In addition to the facade, numerous details, such as the decorative trellises, will be renovated. Work is also underway inside, with wooden door and window joinery being restored or replaced. The historic doorway, which tourists use from the hall to the White Room, will undergo a thorough restoration. The castle fountain, which has long been in need of repair, will also undergo revitalization.
What is the cost and deadline for renovation?
The revitalization of the Moszna Palace is scheduled to take 1.5 years, with the total cost of the renovation exceeding PLN 40 million. Financing for the project is provided by the Opole Voivodeship budget, EU funds, and cross-border Polish-Czech funds.
What stage is the work at Moszna Castle currently at?
As we can learn from the official website of the Moszna Castle, as of the first quarter of 2022, the following activities have been completed:
- renovation of the internal joinery in the castle building,
- renovation works on the facade including renovation of the terrace and insulation of the foundations,
- renovation of window and door joinery (or replacement with new ones),
- construction of mineral surfaces in the palace and park complex,
- revitalization of the castle fountain,
- replacement of external lighting,
- maintenance of park channels.
Is it possible to visit the castle due to renovations?
Those who enjoy strolling through the castle, or those who wanted to visit for the first time, had to be patient. During the height of the pandemic, it was only possible to view the castle from the outside and stroll through the park. Currently, although renovations are still underway, the castle is open to tourists. Visitors can tour the interior, stroll through the park, and enjoy the services of the restaurant and café.
